Take about 1 hour before sexual activity. If needed, it can also be taken 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity. Take Viagra before or after meals. If you take it after a high-fat meal, such as a burger or fries, it may take a little longer for the medication to take effect. Do not take Viagra more than once a day. A study in healthy subjects without HIV infection showed that Ritonavir resulted in a significant increase in blood levels of sildenafil (an 11-fold increase in AUC, see "Drug Interactions"). For this reason, patients taking ritonavir are advised not to take more than 25 mg of the drug every 48 hours.

Sildenafil can enhance the antihypertensive effect of nitrate, so it is contraindicated in patients taking any form of nitric oxide donor and nitrate.
